GOLD DUST

2011
Portraits + archival images + oral histories + landscapes

“To become different from what we are, we must have some awareness of what we are.”-Eric Hoffer

For a stint, I lived in the bustling and wildly diverse cultural tip of Malaysia. A geographic piece of land teeming with Indian hawker stalls, Chinese enclaves, Indonesian rituals, and American banking districts. I spent my days photographing, and more importantly listening to, members of the transgender community who tread courageous terrain and live within what is widely-understood to be the most conservative Asian country.

Made possible through an artist residency with Objectifs Centre for Photography and Filmmaking and funding from the Singapore National Arts Council.
