I have been a high school photography teacher for many years. The weeks preceeding a school dance I watch my students squirm and giggle, slip off to have secret conversations with suiters behind classrooms, get their nails done and borrow shoes from older brothers.

The night of the dance they scintillate on the dance floor,  slowly and steadily as the night unfolds. No school uniforms, no dismissal times, no demerits and no testing. Just silk and lace.

This is an ongoing participatory series photographed throughout this school year. Images here presently are from the Homecoming dance, November 2015.
